Real-Time Haptic and Visual Simulation of Bone Dissection

چکیده
Bone dissection is an important component of many surgical procedures. In this paper, we discuss a haptic and visual simulation of a bone cutting burr, that it is being developed as a component of a training system for temporal bone surgery. We use a physically motivated model to describe the burr–bone interaction, that includes haptic forces evaluation, the bone erosion process and the resulting debris. The current implementation, directly operating on a voxel discretization of patient-specific 3D CT and MR imaging data, is efficient enough to provide real–time feedback on a low–end multi–processing PC platform.

Adaptive techniques for real-time haptic and visual simulation of bone dissection
Bone dissection is an important component of many surgical procedures. In this paper, we discuss adaptive techniques for providing real-time haptic and visual feedback during a virtual bone dissection simulation. The simulator is being developed as a component of a training system for temporal bone surgery. We harness the difference in complexity and frequency requirements of the visual and hap...

Interactive dissection simulation is an important research topic in the virtual reality (VR) community. There are many efforts on this topic; however, most of them focus on building a realistic simulation system regardless of the cost, and they often require expensive workstations and specialized haptic devices which prevent broader adoption. We show how to build a realistic dissection simulati...
متن کاملSoft Tissue Modeling Using ANFIS for Training Diagnosis of Breast Cancer in Haptic Simulator
Soft tissue modeling for the creation of a haptic simulator for training medical skills has been the focus of many attempts up to now. In soft tissue modeling the most important parameter considered is its being real-time, as well as its accuracy and sensitivity. In this paper, ANFIS approach is used to present a nonlinear model for soft tissue. The required data for training the neuro-fuzzy mo...

Whilst laparoscopic surgical simulators are becoming increasingly realistic they can not, as yet, fully replicate the experience of live surgery. In particular tissue dissection in one task that is particularly challenging to replicate. Limitation of current attempts to simulate tissue dissection include: poor visual rendering; over simplification of the task and; unrealistic tissue properties....

In this paper we present the current state of our research on simulation of temporal bone surgical procedures. We describe the results of tests performed on a virtual surgical training system for middle ear surgery. The work is aimed to demonstrate how expert surgeons and trainees can effectively use the system for training and assessment purposes. Preliminary kinematic and dynamic analysis of ...
